Triton Himself

Triton is a merman in Greek mythology, He's the messenger god of the deep sea and a trumpeter of the sea, but he is also the son of Poseidon and Amphitrite. He has a conch shell which he used as a trumpet in order to tame the waves to his volition. Gradually, his name Triton started being used to describe a class of creatures similar to mermaids and of either sex, who served as followers of other sea deities. The Triton's were considered to be the trumpeters of the sea. Sometimes, they were also considered the equivalent of satyrs in marine environments.

Triton had great power that could move whole lands and calm seas.

As he was a son of Poseidon and Amphitrite he was still living with them in a golden palace in the depths of the sea. In the mythical lake Tritonis, near the Mediterranean coast of Libya. He was represented as man in his upper parts, terminating in a dolphin's tail; but his special attribute is a twisted sea-shell, on which he blows, sometimes violently, sometimes gently, to either raise or calm the billows. In time there grew up the notion of a large number of Tritons, all represented as beings of double form and sometimes with the fore feet of a horse as well as a human body and a fish's tail called Centaurs.

Poseidon Father Of Triton

Poseidon is the father of Triton and many other sons and daughters, but Poseidon is the god of the sea and the protector of all aquatic features. He is the brother of Hades and Zeus and has sisters Hera, Hestia and Demeter.

Poseidons Story

Poseidon was the god of the sea, earthquakes and horses. Although he was officially one of the supreme gods of Mount Olympus, he spent most of his time in his watery domain. Poseidon was brother to Zeus and Hades. These three gods divided up creation. Zeus became ruler of the sky, Hades got dominion of the Underworld and Poseidon was given all water, both fresh and salt.

Although there were various rivers personified as gods, these would have been technically under Poseidon's rule. Similarly, Nereus, the Old Man of the Sea, wasn't really considered on a par with Poseidon, who was known to drive his chariot through the waves in unquestioned dominance. Poseidon had married Nereus's daughter, and the sea-nymph Amphitrite.

The Romans name for Poseidon was Neptune.

In dividing heaven, the watery realm and the subterranean land of the dead, the Olympians agreed that the earth itself would be ruled jointly, with Zeus as king. This led to a number of territorial disputes among the gods. Poseidon vied with Athena to be patron deity of Athens. The god demonstrated his power and benevolence by striking the Acropolis with his three-pronged spear, which caused a spring of salt water to emerge.

Amphitrite Mother Of Triton

Amphitrite is a Sea goddess in Greek mythology, wife of the god Poseidon. Even though Amphitrite did not play a particular role in the many myths, she is the goddess of the sea who is married with Poseidon who is the God of the sea.

Even though she did not play a particular role in many myths she still was in myths.

Amphitrite was one of the sea-nymphs called the Nereids. One day the sea god Poseidon saw her dancing and fell desperately in love with her. He promptly asked her to marry him but unfortunately she refused.
Not discouraged by Amphitrite's refusal, Poseidon sent one of his servants, a dolphin to convince her. The dolphin pleaded Neptune's cause so well that she changed her mind. Neptune and Amphitrite married and as a reward for his help, Neptune placed the image of the dolphin among the stars as the constellation Dolphinus, the Dolphin. Neptune was the Romans name for Poseidon.
Among their children was a son, Triton, whose name was given to the principal moon of the planet Neptune. They also had a daughter, Rhodes after whom is named the island of Rhodes.
